How to Search MSU Global Access
MSU Global Access is built on a database organized by categories. It contains more than 8,500 resources. You can search these resources either by (1) category or (2) keyword.
Search by Categories
In most cases, you will get the best results by using the search categories: World Region/Country, Thematic Area, Constituency Group, and Resource Type. This is because the resources in MSU Global Access are stored in a database using these categories.
You can narrow your search by selecting more than one category, such as --
World Region/Country "Asia & Oceania" AND Thematic Area "Health"
OR
Country "Egypt" AND Constituency Group "Industry, Business & Labor"
Tips for category searches:
Did you get too many search results? A search tool appears at the bottom of the search results page with the values from your last search saved. You can specify an additional category or keywords to trim the search results.
Do you want to start a new search? At bottom of search results page, click on "Clear Values" and enter new search terms. Or click on "Search this site" and begin new search.
To browse all websites about a topic (e.g., region, theme, or country), go to the page on that topic and click on "Browse whole category."
When you specify a World Region, only resources related to that general region will be identified; search results will not include information about individual countries in the region. To search for resources on a specific country, choose from the drop_down list in the "Country" category.
When you search using categories, there is no need to specify a "keyword" as well, although you may do so.
Search by Keyword
In a "Keyword" search, only the title of the website and the description of the website that has been written for MSU Global Access will be searched. (MSU Global Access is not a search engine like Google or AltaVista that searches the entire websites for matching text.)
Try the "Keyword" search if you are looking for something very specific, but remember that the exact term you choose may not match words used in the title or description of the resource. Search for phrases by surrounding the
phrase in quotation marks.
Tips for keyword searches:
The search will identify only those resources that contain all of the words you specify in "Keyword".
Do not use boolean words such as "and" or "or" or articles such as "the" or "a".
