  • United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) - Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) - UNESCO is not only the main United Nations agency for education, but also has a mandate to collect data on education from its member nations. The US is not a member but continues to collaborate with UNESCO in specific ways. UNESCO's World Education Report, 2000, is presented on this site, along with other world education indicators as well as much additional information on basic education and higher education.
     
  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) - UNICEF cooperates with national governments, non-governmental organizations and other United Nations agencies in 161 countries and territories. The 37 National Committees for UNICEF, mostly in the industrialized world, are non-governmental organizations that support UNICEF in advocacy for children and fund-raising.

  • The World Bank Group - The World Bank's activities in education aim to improve access to relevant learning opportunities, to use education resources wisely and fairly, and to build stronger institutional capacity. It is the world's largest multilateral funding agency for efforts to improve education. Its current lending in education totals more than $2 billion per year.

  • Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) - The OECD groups 29 industrialized countries in an organization that provides governments a setting in which to discuss and develop economic and social policy. Its Center for Educational Research and Innovation (CERI) works on issues related to education and publishes the well-known compendium of education indicators known as "Education at a Glance."
     
  • Academy for Educational Development (AED) - AED is an independent, nonprofit organization committed to solving critical social problems in the U.S. and throughout the world. Major areas of focus include education, youth development, health and the environment.

  • International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) represents the most extensive investigation of mathematics and science education ever conducted. Almost 60 countries have participated in at least one data collection of this comparative survey of education focusing upon nine-year old students, thirteen-year old students, and students in their last year of secondary schools. TIMSS went well beyond traditional comparative assessments by including a comprehensive analysis of textbooks and curriculum guides, investigations of instructional practices, students' classroom perceptions, interest, and motivation, and various influences on curricular organization and student learning.
     
  • Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) - CIES is a professional association for scholars of comparative and international education. It fosters cross-cultural understanding, scholarship, academic achievement and societal development through the international study of educational ideas, systems, and practices.
     
  • International Studies at the College of Education, Michigan State University - Established in 1984 and influenced by national and university-level efforts to internationalize higher education, the Office of International Studies promotes an international dimension in all aspects of College research, teaching, and public service.
